DATA JUSTICE LAB
Characters illustrations
The Data Justice Lab is a new space for research and collaboration at Cardiff University’s School of Journalism, Media and Culture (JOMEC).
The term ‘data justice’ is intended to advance a research agenda that examines the intricate relationship between datafication and social justice by foregrounding and highlighting the politics and impacts of data-driven processes and big data. The lab brings together our interests in digital media, social justice, and data power and builds on our existing research and activity in these areas. (from https://datajusticelab.org

So I designed a series of characters to represent the diversity of each, thinking at something human-looking but with the feature of being not human.
The characters are not robots but I took inspiration from the Crash Test Dummies, giving to each of them a different physical aspect, age, personality.
The aim of the illustrated characters is to facilitate the understanding of the concepts and of the researches that the university is carrying out; it is important that "ordinary people" (who actually use social media, for instance) have clear in their mind how our data are used and distributed.
